These native Hawaiian species are currently being propagated in nurseries and botanical gardens to help conserve their populations and ensure their survival in the wild. ‘Uki’uki was once used by native Hawaiians for its purple berry to dye fabric. Once they are ready, they will be planted in suitable habitats to help restore and protect Hawaii's unique ecosystems.
